Pitch

Because everyday is a Fashion Show and the world is our Runway ….. The dominant use of 3D printing in homes will be for clothes

Description

Make life easier/more difficult for Singapore?

Easier

Describe the change

The dominant use of 3D printing in homes of the future , will be for making clothes and be applied to Fashion. The constant demand for trendy  new clothes and ubiquitous need for suitable attire provides the economic basis and impetus for this development. People may pay a store to 3-D print something like a faucet,  but no one will want to share their personal fashion machine, which will be used frequently and by the whole family

Dedicated 3D fashion printers for turning liquid polymers into fabrics will allow people to print their clothes at home. People will purchase clothing designs online, scale it to their own dimensions and add whatever customization they see fit before printing it.  People would even be able to print small swatches of material to see what textures they prefer before making a complete outfit.

Developments in new synthetic fabrics may also mean that clothes can be recycled easily and turned back into resin for reprinting.

How will this change impact Smart Nation Singapore in 2030?

•New industry manufacturing Dedicated 3D-Fashion Printers for domestic use

•Leverage on Singapore's petrochemical sector which could be repositioned to provide the materials to create synthetic fabrics at home.

•Demand for fashion designers who are able manipulate the technology to produce interesting new textures and design concepts for clothes.
