Describe the change
As of June 25, 2016, 8,900 dengue cases have been reported in the Republic this year, more than twice last year's figure of 4,100 for the same period. As Singapore reaches its traditional peak dengue season, there is a need to reduce the upward trend in the number of dengue cases in the coming months.
To add on, there is a new virus that exist which is known as Zika. This worries many individuals as we go through daily activities.
We aim to create an application that enables people to stay vigilant and continue to work as a community to prevent dengue cases from rising.
It presents an opportunity for governmental segments to spread the importance of being environmentally aware about reducing the breeding of mosquitos.
How will this change impact Smart Nation Singapore in 2030?
In 2030, everything will evolve through technology. Many facilities will include IT components to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. With that in mind, we proposed our solutions to help protect Singaporean citizens, known as BAM.
The features available on the BAM app can allow Singaporeans to be more aware of the surroundings, be it indoor or outdoor.
BAM includes:
- Keep track of dengue/zika cases in Singapore. It also provides a dengue cluster map. When users step into danger zone, there will be a notification to alert them.
- Check list for users to ensure that the area of concern is clean
- Educational materials
The app would be coupled with a set of sensors that enables users to keep track of
1) How long the water is being stored
2) Detect for breeding insects
3) Send reminders to user to empty the water when time is up
