Describe the change
With land being scarce as usual and a steadily growing population in Singapore, several trends in micro farming and high tech vertical farming will probably come into the country as we strive to increase the efficacy per square foot of farm land.
Simple and self sustaining micro farming sets are slowly gaining traction in western countries where an individual can purchase a seed tray with nutrients, add water and place the tray inside an environmentally controlled box no bigger than a small bed side table. Then box would ring an alarm in a couple of weeks when the product is ready for harvest.
In Japan, produce can even be grown within an office. Adding a little greenery indoors. High tech vertical automated farms on the other hand would be how we truly feed the population.
How will this change impact Smart Nation Singapore in 2030?
Fresh produce for reasonable prices and allowing us to become self sustainable as a nation.
