Pitch
Advances in virtual intelligence and simulation technology will enable policy makers and the public to experiment before implementation.
Description
Make life easier/more difficult for Singapore?
Easier
Describe the change
Today's simulation technology is far more advanced than people once thought possible. It can be seen in video games, where graphics look almost indistinguishable from real life environments. It can be seen in movies, where computer-generated soldiers with independent minds suddenly turn into the vicious hordes of Sauron on the silver screen. And it is heavily used in physics, to predict the effects of atoms in controlled environments. As simulation technology improves even further, all kinds of scenarios could be simulated to predict the most possible outcome. From simple proposals like a tax increase, to a complex policy like pursuing a nuclear energy strategy instead of renewables can be gamed out by a simulation before actually implementing the policy.
How will this change impact Smart Nation Singapore in 2030?
With simulations accurately predicting the impact of policies, governments can know beforehand whether their policy would have the desired impact. By sharing this information with the public, society can make well-informed decisions and support policies that have a greater chance of succeeding. With easy access to simulation technology, private citizens can also make suggestions that could have an impact on millions of lives, without actually disrupting millions of lives first.
