There are consumer electronics companies that are looking to develop activity trackers for chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease, allowing patients and clinical practitioners to track and monitor patients without patients staying in the hospital.

As society progresses and populations age, there is a shift away from managing infectious diseases to managing chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease, that are related to lifestyle factors.

There is also a move towards technology targeted at older adults. It can be something as simple as presenting information in a clearer manner and raising the self efficacy of older adults towards technology
