Pitch

A ubiquitous Smart Nation AI (think SIRI), having access to all public data, provides instant answers and services just by asking it

Description

Make life easier/more difficult for Singapore?

Easier

Describe the change

The latest trend among tech companies (MS, Apple, Google, Facebook, Amazon) is the advancement of Artificial Intelligence to create the perfect Personal Assistant. Siri, Cortana, Google Now and Echo scour the web for information and your personal data (e.g. emails and contacts) to provide contextual reminders (e.g. appointments), suggestions (when to leave to avoid traffic jams) and perform simple services (dictate a text message, hail an UBER).

Interactions with such AIs are increasingly being performed via voice using Natural Language patterns instead of fixed commands.  With the ubiquity of smartphones, these advanced AI assistants are available 24/7, standing ready to be of service at any moment.

How will this change impact Smart Nation Singapore in 2030?

Imagine if there is an AI which knows all the data in data.gov.sg, all the info in the yellow pages directory, all traffic data, and all rules, regulations and schemes of every single public agency.  If given permission, this AI also has access to your personal data and is plugged into the online application forms of agencies.

This AI would then be able to give rapid and personalised answers to queries ranging from simple "How much is my GST relief" to complex "who to report fishball stick on the floor", from a single interface without having to download multiple apps, talk to multiple agencies, and surf different websites.  Personalised answers such as GST relied would be the exact amount, based on how long the person is away from Singapore.  It can also perform simple services like reporting the fishball stick without bothering users on the details of how to report.

All citizens need to do is ask the AI, on their smartphone/ wearable/ self help kiosks - "Smart Nation, what/where/how.."
